UK-Australia Renewable Hydrogen Innovation Partnership Programme
The UK-Australia Renewable Hydrogen Innovation Partnership Programme is currently open for applications. Innovate UK, a division of UK Research and Innovation, is collaborating with Australia’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water (DCCEEW) to allocate up to £5 million for innovative projects. The primary goal of this competition is to decrease the expenses linked to establishing a low-carbon hydrogen economy. The competition invites proposals from collaborative initiatives led by businesses registered in both the UK and Australia.

Eligibility
- Your project must involve collaboration between at least one registered organization in the UK and one in Australia.
- The project should feature a micro, small, or medium-sized enterprise (SME) registered in the UK as a participant.
- The total project costs should not exceed £2 million.
- The project is expected to kick off by May 1, 2024, and conclude by March 31, 2026.
- UK project partners are required to carry out the majority of their project work either in the UK or Australia.
- The intention is to exploit the project results primarily in the UK.
- UK participants must submit their applications to Innovate UK, while Australian partners should submit theirs to the Australian side of the competition.
- Successful applications from both the UK and Australia are essential to secure grant funding.
- All businesses within the consortium must be separate legal entities to encourage genuine international collaboration.
- Linked companies are considered a single entity under the parent company.
- The project must demonstrate a balanced contribution of total eligible project costs among partners from participating countries.
- No single partner or all partners from a specific country should claim more than 60% of the total project costs.
To spearhead a project, your entity must:
- Be a business registered in the UK, regardless of its size.
- Be or include a micro, small, or medium-sized enterprise (SME) registered in the UK.
- Engage in collaboration with at least one eligible Australian organization or multiple organizations applying on the Australian side of the competition.
- Ensure that Australian organizations are distinct legal entities without any direct links to the UK partnersTop of Form.
Benefits
A funding pool of £5 million has been designated for supporting innovation projects in this competition, and the financial support will be provided in the form of a grant. For feasibility studies and industrial research projects, eligible project costs could receive funding at the following rates:
- Up to 70% for micro or small organizations.
- Up to 60% for medium-sized organizations.
- Up to 50% for large organizations.
For experimental development projects that are closer to market readiness, eligible project costs could secure funding at the following rates:
- Up to 45% for micro or small organizations.
- Up to 35% for medium-sized organizations.
- Up to 25% for large organizations.
