Paint Annapolis Competition 2020

Paint Annapolis is a week-long, juried Plein air painting competition to be held in June, that brings to Annapolis painters from around the world. For 14 years it has been a premier event, joining artists and patrons of the arts together to share in the vibrancy of outdoor painting. Hundreds of residents and visitors come out to watch the artists explore, in paint, the special colonial architecture, marine atmosphere, and overall energy of Maryland’s capital city.

It is quite a rare art contest and quite a prestigious one as well, which started 20 years ago and is held every year where visitors and residents explore not only the beautiful city of Maryland but the beautiful pieces of artwork of this competition as well. The French term Plein air refers to painting outdoors rather than a studio, and that is the beauty of this painting.

• Paint Annapolis is a great initiative for artists from all walks of life to get to know each other, be part of a wonderful community, and to appreciate each other’s works
• The artist’s paintings are displayed all week long and it is a great way for all the painters to receive valuable exposure

Application Process

• All of the artwork is entered online. You can access the online entry system by navigating to the call for artists page, selecting the desired show, and clicking on “online entry system”

• Nov. 6, 2019, Online entry open for submissions
• Jan 10, 2020 Deadline for entries
• Feb. 15, 2020 Notification sent by email. Contact MFA if you do not receive notice.
• Sept. 20 – 27, 2020 Paint Annapolis Competition
• Sept. 20 Artists check-in and Quick Draw timed painting competition
• Sept. 22 Paint the Bay, reception at Maritime Museum from 6 pm – 7 pm
• Sept. 23  Nocturne night painting event during Annapolis’ Dinner Under the Stars
• Sept. 24 Art on the Avenue, Maryland Ave. block party from 5 pm – 7 pm
• Sept. 25 Preview Party & Awards at Circle Gallery
• Sept. 26-27 Public Receptions

• All entrants will receive notice by email
• The notice to accepted artists will include specific details and could vary from the prospectus
