Improving and Scaling-up Semiconductor Manufacturing – CR&D

Enhancing and Expanding Semiconductor Manufacturing – CR&D is currently welcoming applications. Businesses registered in the UK have the opportunity to seek funding of up to £12 million for collaborative research and development initiatives focused on enhancing and expanding semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, as well as bolstering supply-chain resilience within the United Kingdom.

 

Eligibility

Your project must meet the following criteria:

  • Lead in the industry.
  • Project costs should not exceed £2.5 million.
  • Commence by 01 June 2024 and conclude by 31 May 2025, lasting up to 12 months.
  • Conduct all project activities within the United Kingdom.
  • Aim to exploit results within or for the benefit of the UK.

To collaborate with the lead, your organization must be registered in the UK as one of the following:

  • Business of any size
  • Academic institution
  • Charity
  • Not-for-profit organization
  • Public sector organization
  • Research and technology organization (RTO)

You are allowed to engage subcontractors, and they can be selected from anywhere in the UK through your standard procurement process.

If considering subcontractors from overseas, your application must justify why UK suppliers were not viable for the specified project.

Benefits

A funding pool of up to £12 million has been earmarked to support innovative projects in this competition, with the financial assistance taking the form of a grant.

If your organization is engaged in commercial or economic aspects of the project, it is important to adhere to the specified funding limits, irrespective of your organization’s usual non-economic activities. The funding percentages for eligible project costs in industrial research projects are as follows:

  • Up to 70% for micro or small organizations
  • Up to 60% for medium-sized organizations
  • Up to 50% for large organizations
