The Australian Government has allocated $6.8 million to enhance greenhouse gas (GHG) calculators and accounting tools. This funding aims to help agricultural, forestry, and fisheries producers transition to a low-emissions future by incorporating voluntary GHG emissions standards. These standards, drafted by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), will ensure consistency in GHG calculators and tools. Stakeholders have raised concerns about the cost and inconsistency of updating calculators to align with Australia’s National Greenhouse Accounts and Greenhouse Accounting Framework (GAF) tools. The funded product will not compete with existing calculators but will instead support third-party tools in adopting the voluntary standards and GAF tools. Producers will benefit indirectly by gaining easier access to robust and affordable emissions estimates.
