AI in Transport Competition
The Department for Transport (DfT) and Connected Places Catapult are collaborating to leverage AI’s potential to transform the UK transport sector. They are launching the Enhancing Passenger Experience – AI in Transport Competition to invite UK-based SMEs to propose AI-driven solutions to improve passenger experiences in line with the government’s transport priorities. Participants must address critical passenger challenges in one or more key areas: improving railways, enhancing bus services, transforming infrastructure to reduce inequality, delivering greener transport, or better integrating networks. Successful applicants will receive funding, professional support, and collaboration opportunities with policymakers and industry stakeholders to refine their business cases and pitch solutions.

- The program progresses through three phases.
- In Phase One, applicants receive £2,000 to develop an initial business case and pitch deck.
- In Phase Two, they gain pitching guidance and present to a DfT panel.
- Phase Three provides up to £13,000 to mature their solutions and pitch at the Connected Places Catapult Summit in March 2025.
- SMEs receive funding to build their business case and pitch deck.
